WEST HAM’S big farewell to Upton Park turned into a nightmare last night as the visitors’ team bus was attacked outside the ground. Manchester United players and staff cowered inside the sanctuary of the coach that was hit by a hail of bottles and cans.

It was impossible for the players to leave the bus to walk to the ground. The kick-off was delayed as police dressed in riot gear fought to restore order ahead of the 3-2 win for West Ham. The result means United remain two points behind Manchester City in fourth and out of the Champions League spots.
