is expected to announce her retirement from internatio­nal cricket at Lord’s today after a 20-year career at the top.

The England skipper, 36, who made her debut in 1996, has led her country for 11 years since taking over from Clare Connor in late 2005. Among the highlights have been back-to-back Ashes wins in 2005 and 2008, and victories at the World Cup and World T20 in 2009.

Edwards, who is England’s leading run scorer, is expected to honour a commitment to play for the Southern Vipers in this summer’s inaugural Kia Super League T20 tournament.
