There are emotional scenes in Walford this evening as one of the show’s most enduring characters continues her goodbye. Peggy (Dame Barbara Windsor, far left) sits down with son Phil (Steve McFadden, near left) and tells him about her cancer. In the face of her illness, the matriarch of the Mitchell family has decided that there is little or no point in attempting treatment and will allow the disease to run its course. This decision does not sit well with Phil, though, who insists her life is worth fighting for. He responds to the news by rallying the family together to remind his mum about what she has to fight for. Elsewhere, Tina grows increasingly concerned about Sonia’s wellbeing.
