TUI NAVES BON VOYAGE TO NICHE BRANDS
TOUR operator TUI is to sell its adventure and sailing-focused Specialist Holidays Group to concentrate on its main mass market tourism business.
The Thomson and First Choice owner will wave goodbye to about 50 brands including Sunsail and Hayes & Jarvis but retain Crystal Ski Holidays and Thomson Lakes & Mountains.
TUI recently offloaded hotel booking site Hotelbeds for about 1.2 billion euros (£950million).
The disposal was announced with half-year figures showing a pre-tax loss of £187.5million, a 16.3 per cent improvement on the previous year. Turnover was up 2.7 per cent to £5.37billion.
Chief executive Fritz Joussen said: “TUI is on track and will continue to expand its strong global position.”
