Giant sinkhole leaves car dangling

A CAR was left hanging over the edge of a massive sinkhole which opened in a street after torrential downpours.

Police discovered the blue people carrier in Charlton, south-east London, after the area was drenched by half a month’s rain this week.

Car owner Ghazi Hassan, 40, said: “I’m very pleased that my family were not hurt. After all, it’s just a car. I am pleased everyone is safe.

“Thankfully, the car seems OK.”

Mr Hassan’s brother Abdul Ahmudzai, 44, said: “I just can’t believe it. He isn’t very happy about it and neither am I, but there’s nothing we can do about it.

“There was quite a big storm last night.”
