Taxpayers should not fund police’s Kos appeal trip

I CAN well understand the anguish of Ben Needham’s mother and her wish to know what happened to her son all those years ago but is it really reasonable to send senior police officers to Kos to continue enquiries and spend taxpayers’ money keeping them there while making a TV appeal? (“Police: Are you Ben Needham?”, May 11).

The appeal could have been made by recording a taped message in the UK to be screened on Greek TV. No wonder the police are becoming a laughing stock.
