THERE was a moment when every child in the land was addicted to the video game Angry Birds. Now a suitably manic animated film transports us to Bird Island and tries to explain why its inhabitants are so furious all the time. Entertainingly anarchic, it moves at such breakneck speed that there is always another visual gag to sustain the fun.

Red (voiced by Jason Sudeikis) is the angriest of the birds in a collection that also includes cocky Chuck (Josh Gad) and growling, thuggish Terence (Sean Penn).

Green-skinned porkers from Piggy Island arrive for a visit but Red is suspicious of their true intentions and we soon learn why he has every right to feel angry. A freewheeling film that winds up celebrating the need to be true to

yourself.
