GFIK Rhinos rocked
OF ALL the indignities heaped on Leeds in 2016, this was the most humiliating as boss Brian McDermott came under increased scrutiny.
The Rhinos claimed a glorious treble last year but they have been a shambles for much of this season and hit rock-bottom last night.
From McDermott’s men there was no confidence, no aggression – in a nutshell, no hope.
This was as bad as it gets. And perhaps the bitterest pill to swallow is that defeat came as no surprise.
The result marked an 11th Super League loss of the campaign for the crestfallen Rhinos, who look a sorry shadow of the side who swept all before them last term.
Credit to Castleford. They sensed a great

opportunity to put one over on their big-city neighbours and duly took it.
Although Mitch Garbutt put Leeds ahead, the Tigers took complete control with Luke Gale orchestrating affairs at scrum-half in a brilliant display. Gale’s artful work saw full-back Luke Dorn claim a first-half hat-trick, with further scores from Denny Solomona and Joel Monaghan making it 30-6 at the break.
Solomona, Gadwin Springer, Ben Crooks and Grant Millington added to Leeds’ agony, with Ash Handley’s try no consolation. THE International Olympic Committee have called for the World Anti-Doping Agency to immediately investigate “very detailed and very worrying” allegations of Russian state-sponsored doping at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
Hosts Russia topped the medal table, but a New York Times report claims performanceenhancing drug use was rife and covered up.
