Parking row nurse ‘threw bucket of water at bailiffs’

- By Natalie Chalk

A NURSE threw a bucket of water towards two bailiffs – and was shocked to discover she could be arrested for assaulting them.

Rachael Carron, 49, has been involved in a bitter parking fine dispute for three years and has run up a £500 bill.

Ms Carron said she has been subjected to a prolonged period of harassment from bailiffs but remains steadfast in refusing to pay the fine for parking on double yellow lines.

She claims she was late returning to her car after helping an elderly woman who had fallen.

The mother-of-three said bailiffs from Jacobs Debt Recovery, working for East Riding Council, banged on her front door at around 7am yesterday.

Ms Carron, of Beverley, East Yorks, said she refused to open the door and when the men went around the back she told them to leave.

She then threw a bucket of water from a window in the direction of the men but says she missed them. Half an hour later police arrived and told her they were investigating a complaint that she had “assaulted” a bailiff.

Ms Carron said: “I couldn’t believe it when they told me I could be arrested. I was mopping my kitchen floor when the bailiffs turned up. I have a right to throw a bucket of water on to my driveway and if that hits them when I’ve asked them to leave, then tough. But I can give a cast-iron guarantee I did not get them with it. Ms Carron said she was unhappy with the way police handled the dispute, claiming the bailiffs had parked their car in her driveway. It was blocking in her car but the officers did not ask the men to move it.

She added that “constant visits” from the debt collectors was affecting her family. “I’ve told my children not to answer the door to anyone,” she said. Police confirmed they were called to Ms Carron’s address. A spokeswoman said: “No offences were identified and appropriate advice was given.”

No one was available to comment at debt collectors Jacobs.
