- By Cyril Dixon

ANT and Dec promised a 90th birthday party fit for a Queen yesterday as they prepared to host the TV special for Her Majesty’s big day.

The popular duo told of their delight at being selected to front the star-studded event from the grounds of Windsor Castle tomorrow.

Among the star names performing live for the monarch are Dame Shirley Bassey, Gary Barlow, Andrea Bocelli and Kylie Minogue.

About 900 horses will feature in a series of equestrian displays for a colourful nod to the Queen’s love of riding.

The presenters said in a statement: “We are honoured to be hosting this special celebration of Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday.

“This spectacular evening will bring together some of the best-known names in the entertainment world who will perform with 900 horses and 1500 participants to mark this very special birthday.”

Downton Abbey star Jim Carter, who narrates part of the programme about the Queen’s childhood, said: “I’m thrilled to be asked to play a part in the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations. I believe that Shetland ponies are also involved! I can’t reveal too much as I wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise.”

Dame Helen Mirren will talk audiences through the Queen’s teenage years before Katherine Jenkins performs I Vow To Thee My Country.

Daily Express gardening columnist Alan Titchmarsh will describe the Queen’s estates and speak about her love of family, horses, dogs and the countryside. Other stars include singer James Blunt and actor Damian Lewis.
