IT’S a grim old world out there what with war, famine, pestilence and all the rest of it stalking the globe but cheer up everyone, Angelina Jolie is here to save us. La Jolie has taken time out from private- jetting between her various mansions to lecture us on the migration crisis. There is a “race to the bottom” for European countries to reintroduce immigration controls, she said, following that up with a lot of guff that frankly is too tedious to reproduce here.

Elsewhere Greg Wise is accusing EU countries of scaremongering, his wife Emma Thompson is having a pop at fracking. Emma Watson is taking time out from setting up companies in Panama to call for a statue of a suffragette outside Westminster. Just about everyone is protesting about reforms at the BBC and I could go on but you get the message. To be a celebrity today is to have a conscience with a capital C.
