IT’S a grim old world out there what with war, famine, pestilence and all the rest of it stalking the globe but cheer up everyone, Angelina Jolie is here to save us. La Jolie has taken time out from private- jetting between her various mansions to lecture us on the migration crisis. There is a “race to the bottom” for European countries to reintroduc­e immigratio­n controls, she said, following that up with a lot of guff that frankly is too tedious to reproduce here.

Elsewhere Greg Wise is accusing EU countries of scaremonge­ring, his wife Emma Thompson is having a pop at fracking. Emma Watson is taking time out from setting up companies in Panama to call for a statue of a suffragett­e outside Westminste­r. Greta Scacchi and others including Greg ’ n’ Em, are posing with dead fi sh or live piglets ( conservati­on, dontcha know). Just about everyone is protesting about reforms at the BBC and I could go on but you get the message. To be a celebrity today is to have a conscience with a capital C. It’s just a shame that none of the people involved has the faintest idea what they’re talking about.

Take Angelina Jolie, who is worried about the rise of the far- Right across Europe on the back of the refugee crisis. You and me both, love. It’s a terrifying sight. And yet what Angelina doesn’t seem to realise is that the answer is less immigratio­n, not more. She will never have to worry about her children getting a decent education because the schools are full and the majority of pupils speak English as a second language.
