ENERGY MINISTER ANDREA IN THE RUNNING
ENERGY minister Andrea Leadsom is understood to be on the verge of putting her name forward to be the next Tory leader as a “true Brexiteer” candidate.
She is being pressed to run amid concerns that the group behind Boris Johnson will not end free movement of people in negotiations for the UK exit deal.
The Daily Express has been told of a cross-party Brexit group being formed to make sure a future government delivers an end to free movement and takes Britain out of the EU.
Pro-Brexit figures in the City and business world are also putting together a manifesto to ensure Britain leaves the EU properly and is not caught up in any future eurozone bail outs.
Senior Tories are prepared to back Ms Leadsom, 53, with a team of senior Brexit campaigners such as former defence secretary Liam Fox, former shadow home secretary David Davis and Grassroots Out founder Peter Bone behind her.
