The Living And The Dead, 9pm, BBC1

Colin Morgan (left) and Charlotte Spencer lead the cast in this intriguing supernatural period drama that is split over six instalments. Psychologist Nathan Appleby (Morgan) returns to his family’s estate in Somerset with his wife Charlotte (Spencer) following the death of his mother. The farm is falling apart and they must revive its fortunes in a bid to stop the local community facing ruin. As if Appleby doesn’t have enough on his plate, a girl seemingly possessed by a terrifying spirit is brought to him and he cannot help but attempt to free her, going through every psychological technique known to man to release her from the terrible burden she is carrying. This is one to stick with over the next six weeks.
