Grand Prix races. In a Facebook post on Mother’s Day she wrote: “Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers, and especially mine. There are no words to thank so much love and dedication. Thank you Mum, I love you.”

Ecclestone, 85, declined to comment yesterday.

The Grand Prix tycoon, one of the most powerful men in sport worth an estimated £2.4billion fortune, married third wife Fabiana, 38, in a ceremony at his £23million chalet in Gstaad, Switzerland in August 2012.

The couple had been dating for around three years after meeting when Fabiana was working as vice-president of marketing for the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Ecclestone had previously divorced his wife of 23 years, Croatian model Slavica Radic, 58, the mother of daughters Tamara, 32, and Petra, 27. Ecclestone also has a daughter, Deborah, from his first marriage.

The kidnapping comes just days before the start of the Olympic Games on August 5 in Rio de Janeiro.

Kidnapping was common in Brazil a decade ago with several people seized each day, often for sums of just a few hundred dollars.

A crackdown by police reduced the Aparecida Schunck, Bernie Ecclestone with wife Fabiana and below, Sao Paulo number considerably, and the crime has become much rarer.

But Brazil is still reported to be in the top five countries in the world for kidnappings.

The Rio Games have been beset with fears over the Zika virus, law and order concerns and terrorism.

More than 40,000 troops have been deployed to Rio and the five other host cities – including Sao Paulo – to guarantee security. Armed forces took over public security in Rio from Sunday with 22,000 troops on patrol on the main roads, coast and strategic locations.

Security services in Sao Paulo said they did not comment on kidnapping cases to protect the safety of the victim and would not confirm the reports.

Four years ago Tamara Ecclestone was at the centre of a kidnap scare which led to a blackmailer being jailed for five years.

Martin Peckham, a dental technician, posed as a security expert, and said he could foil a plot – if he was handed £200,000.

Tamara told how the ordeal left her “scared to go out” and led to her doubling her security detail who were with her 24 hours a day.
