Here cons the bride

...arrested in her wedding dress

- By Natalie Chalk

A BRIDE-to-be posed for a police mugshot in her wedding dress and jewellery after she was arrested just before she was about to get married.

Her eyebrow makeup, lipstick and blusher had been done especially for her big day.

Home Office officials dramatically swooped as Cecilia Siaw was due to marry her German bridegroom.

Qualified teacher Siaw, 45, who worked as a healthcare worker and was studying for a master’s degree at the University of Portsmouth was detained at the city’s register office.

The Home Office had refused to extend her leave to remain in 2013.

So she forked out £5,000 to a man she did not know for a dodgy “leave to remain” identity document which was registered to an Indian man. She claimed the man who sold her the document had said he worked for the Home Office.

She was exposed when she used the fake document at work.

Siaw admitted possession of an identity document with improper intention and knowingly remaining beyond the limit of her leave to remain. Jailing her for six months, judge Roger Hetherington said: “I have no alternative but to impose an immediate prison sentence.”

Oscar Vincent, defending, said: “At the time of her arrest Mrs Siaw and her husband were at Portsmouth register office for a ceremony to register their marriage in the UK.

“She was arrested in her wedding dress immediately before the ceremony.

“This is a lady who on completion of her studies in 2011 genuinely has made a contribution to the UK.”

The court also heard that Siaw had never claimed benefits.
