- By Anil Dawar

A BRIDE and groom and two wedding guests died in a head-on horror crash with a lorry just hours after their marriage ceremony.

Newlyweds Paul Dockerty, 58 and Susan Gledhill, 57, had just tied the knot and were being driven away when the Suzuki Ignis they were travelling in collided with an oncoming HGV.

Driver Derek Green, 63, and his wife Joy, 60, also died at the scene of the accident on the A64 in Scampston, North Yorks.

The four were travelling from the wedding in Leeds to the seaside resort of Scarborough.

Mr and Mrs Green’s devastated daughter Melanie Green posted a tribute on her Facebook page on Saturday, the day after the tragedy on Friday.

She wrote: “Yesterday was the worst day of my life, yesterday I lost my mother Joy and my father Derek in a traffic accident outside of Rillington.

“They were coming back from Leeds from my Uncle Paul’s wedding to his partner Sue when their car hit a HGV coming in the opposite direction.

“Sue and Paul were in the back, all four of them died on the scene. I know a great many people loved my parents, they were amazing, wonderful, weird people, they opened their hearts to the entire world. They were my world. I know a lot of people will want to call and offer help.

“Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me and my sister Tammy and partner John today and in the days to come.”

Neighbours in Leeds spoke of their shock. Aran Yazdan, 32, said: “I’m very sad, you never think something like this is going to happen.”

Police confirmed four people in the car died at the scene. Officers are investigating the tragedy. The 26-year-old driver of the lorry was uninjured.
