Neighbours’ Mrs Mangel dies at 92
Look out, Larry, top cat’s here
BRITISH actress Vivean Gray who played Mrs Mangel in Neighbours has died aged 92.
Tributes have been paid to the star, who also played gossip Ida Jessup in The Sullivans.
She was cast as meddlesome Nell Mangel in the hit Australian soap for two years from 1986.
But she left because her character was so convincing she received abuse from viewers. It was her most recognisable part, which she landed after moving to Australia and turned to acting later in life. “I could barely set foot outside my own door without someone screaming abuse at horrid old Mrs Mangel,” she said.
Yesterday actor Mark Little, who played her son Joe, said: “Vivean Gray: Legend many times over. I was privileged to know and work with her.” Actress Vivean Gray GLADSTONE the cat has already set the fur flying after joining the Treasury team in Whitehall.
The black puss, described as having “cattitude”, was brought in as a mouser at the department.
But he wasted no time in joining a turf war between Larry the Downing Street cat and Palmerston of the Foreign Office, who have been at war.
A caption on his Instagram page, on a picture of him in a cat carrier, reads: “The humans had to keep me in this cage in case I tormented some other mouser called Larry. Personally, I’ve never heard of him.”
