PICKS OF THE DAY

-

Comedy: Beauty And The Baker, 10pm, C4

This is a rather interesting concept for a new comedy series – an Israeli baker meets a megastar and their worlds collide as love begins to blossom. Still living with his parents in a flat in Tel Aviv, baker Amos meets Noa, one of the country’s most beautiful and richest women, shortly after splitting from his long-term girlfriend and his life changes forever. Broadcast in Hebrew, it stars Aviv Alush (left), Rotem Sela, Mark Ivanir and Hila Saada.

Comedy: Borderline, 10pm, Channel 5

Northend lose one of their best mechanics and that spells bad news for Andy and Tariq as they cannot remember who the deceased man actually was. In a particularly unsubtle manner, Clive keeps dropping broad hints that he has high hopes that a surprise birthday party will be thrown for him while poor old Grant tries to get others to join him in drowning his sorrows. Sunil Patel and Guz Khan (both above) star.

Drama: One Of Us, 9pm, BBC1

This is a superb piece of work from Harry and Jack Williams that will have you hooked from episode one. The clever storyline opens with the murder of two newlyweds. Grace and Adam (Kate Bracken and Jeremy Neumark Jones, both left) live in the tiny village of Braeston in the Scottish Highlands but they meet a grisly end when they are killed shortly after returning from their honeymoon. The two families are in turmoil as they come to terms with their loss but that is just the beginning of their story. As the day after the murders draws to a close the perpetrator runs his car off the road and is left in the hands of the families. Knowing what he has done, they are left to decide his fate. Juliet Stevenson also stars in this clever four-parter.

Animals: The Dog Rescuers With Alan Davies, 8pm, Channel 5

Featured in this instalment of the series is a husky cross who is having to contend with having conjunctivitis as well as being seven kilograms underweight. Over in the Wirral, there is a deeply saddening case for inspector Anthony Joynes. He is called out to help Reo, a German shepherd who has been left to suffer with a dreadful skin condition.

Documentary: Rookies, 9pm, ITV

Trainee officers within the Surrey police force come under the microscope in this new series. Cameras follow their progress as the new recruits, who come from all walks of life, venture on to the streets under the watchful eye of senior colleagues. They include Tyne (right), who has dropped her previous job as a dance instructor to sample a life in law enforcement after taking inspiration from a family member. NB: NOT IN EIRE
