Pulis seeking cutting edge

- Graham Read

WEST BROM boss Tony Pulis feels Albion will rediscover their cutting edge as they look to avoid an upset at Northampton.

The Baggies lost 2-1 at home to Everton on Saturday and go to Sixfields aiming to end the hosts’ unbeaten run, which stretches back to January.

They go to the League One new boys for the first time in 21 years and Pulis called on his side to find their shooting boots.

Pulis, who could hand a debut to left-back Brendan Galloway after he signed on loan from Everton, said: “We’re playing well and creating chances but it’s not just the chances we are missing. We are getting into the final third and picking the wrong pass – it’s just that bit of extra quality we need at the moment.

“We’re just lacking a bit of a cutting edge and that final ball, but I can’t really criticise my players because what they lack – and they do lack things sometimes – they make up for with their commitment and effort. We have got to dust ourselves down and go again. I won’t be making a lot of changes because we haven’t got a lot of changes to make.”

Pulis is hunting four new players, with Aston Villa’s Jordan Ayew and Sporting Lisbon forward Islam Slimani on his wish-list. Albion have been unable to agree a fee with Sporting. Pulis said: “We’ve got 10 days to do some work and hopefully we’ll be able to do it.”

Chris Brunt’s knee injury rules him out but Kane Wilson, 16, is expected to be in the squad while James Morrison could make his first start since January after recovering from a hamstring injury.
