PETER Hill hit the nail on the head when he said it’s time we faced the fact that membership of the single market and free movement of labour are inseparabl­e (August 23).

Having lost the referendum, the Remoaners are now advocating a kind of compromise on unfettered immigratio­n, seemingly as a levy for access to the market.

When will they see immigratio­n was a deciding factor in the referendum result and not something to be traded away?

Theresa May must stress the people did not reject Cameron’s “half-in” EU proposal only to see it replaced by some shabby form of “half out” compromise. Roy Daniels, Luton, Beds
