Sturridge: I’m not a wide boy

-

scored two goals in Liverpool’s 5-0 rout of the Championship side but afterwards spoke of how the switch in position impacts on his game and claimed that “everyone knows my best position”.

Sturridge said: “Of course it is more difficult for me to play wide. I’m a centre-forward.

“In the modern game, you have to try and be flexible, but everyone knows my best position. Everyone knows where I enjoy playing the most.

“I’m a player who plays on instinct and in the middle I have clarity on movements and things that I have been doing for years. I’m on autopilot there. You just do things because you are used to doing it. “But when you are out wide, you’ve got to worry about different things. It’s just a different way.” Sturridge said his role had not been properly explained by Klopp, left, and when asked if he was happy in the position, added: “Well, I have to do a job for the team. “That’s not saying I am happy to do it. But it’s a team game. If I’m put in that position, I have to play there.” REPUBLIC of Ireland skipper Robbie Keane has announced he will retire from international football after next Wednesday’s friendly against Oman in Dublin. The 36-year-old LA Galaxy striker, left, will call time on his 18-year Ireland career having made a record 145 senior appearances for his country, scoring 67 goals. His nearest rival, Niall Quinn, scored 21 goals.

HUDDERSFIELD have completed the signing of left-back Tareiq Holmes-Dennis, 20, from Charlton for an undisclosed fee on a three-year contract. ❑ NEWCASTLE have completed the signing of USA full-back DeAndre Yedlin from Tottenham on a five-year deal.

The 23-year-old, who made 25 appearances for Sunderland during a season-long loan spell last term, has joined the Magpies for an undisclosed fee.

Former Seattle Sounders defender Yedlin will fill the void created by the departure of Daryl Janmaat, who moved to Watford yesterday.

“Newcastle are such a big and historic club and I’m excited to have the honour of playing for them,” said Yedlin.

Manager Rafa Benitez added: “We have a player who knows English football well. He has good experience, an attacking mentality, ability and great pace.”

Holland right-back Janmaat, meanwhile, who joined Newcastle in July 2014 from Feyenoord, has signed a four-year contract at Vicarage Road.

He said: “I was really pleased that Watford showed an interest in me because I wanted to play in the Premier League.

“The club are showing great ambition and want to improve and I really want to be a part of that.”
