D-Day for ‘undecided’ Morgan

- Gideon Brooks

EOIN MORGAN told team-mates he remains “undecided” about whether to pull out of the tour to Bangladesh.

The England limitedovers skipper was at Loughborough yesterday as part of the first tranche of players in the fitness assessments and contract appraisals, which continue today.

He is set to have formal talks with director of cricket Andrew Strauss today in a meeting when they will discuss the terms of his central contract for next year as well as his availability for Bangladesh.

For all that Morgan remains sceptical of the green light on security given by the ECB to players, he is understood to have told colleagues early yesterday that he had not yet made up his mind. Strauss will complete his interviews with England players from both the white ball and Test squads today and is hopeful that most, if not all, will agree to travel to Bangladesh.

However a definitive statement on availability will not be made until tomorrow evening.

Senior players such as Joe Root, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad are all to confirm their willingness to get on the plane. Morgan is not alone in harbouring doubts, with Alex Hales another understood to be mulling over his options.

The white-ball skipper had outlined his fears about security on the tour this week, citing two previous occasions he has been caught up in political unrest and terrorism on the Subcontinent – in Bangalore in 2010 and Bangladesh in 2013.
