Skydiver’s adapted chute failed to open
A SKYDIVER killed after her parachute failed to open properly died “doing what she loved”, her grieving family said last night.
Pamela Gower, 49 – who was born with the restricted growth condition dwarfism – crash-landed on a car in Shotton Colliery, Co Durham.
She was taken to hospital by air ambulance on Saturday but was later declared dead.
Eyewitnesses say she became tangled in the ropes during the 15,000ft jump just months after the British Parachute Association approved her specially-adapted, shortened equipment.
Ms Gower, from Hebburn, South Tyneside, described herself as a “crazy trainee skydiver”.
Her family praised her for “living life to the full” and pursuing her dreams of being an instructor. She worked as an adviser for Remploy, providing jobs for disabled people.
