EU negotiator will be a disaster for UK in Brexit talks
GUY Verhofstadt hates everything we stand for and want. He is rabidly, passionately anti-everything we aspire to and we can expect his only comments during early negotiations to be an emphatic “non!” every time restricting the movement of people is mentioned and “non!” if we mention remaining in the single market without this freedom of movement (“Outcry over ‘anti-Britain stitch-up’ in EU exit talks”, September 9).
I imagine the first few meetings to last for considerably less than a couple of minutes each before one side or the other walks out in disgust at this man’s intransigence.
The EU’s hierarchy has effectively put a brick wall in the way of any meaningful progress by using, as their chief negotiator, somebody who will not give an inch.
He’s more likely to get this newly proposed EU army to attack us than give us what we want so we are lucky that it will contain French and Italians... so a few troops of our Girl Guides should be enough to send them packing. Philip Norman,
