Move Parliament up north during the six-year refit
WITH the news the favoured option for repairs and renovation of Westminster is to have MPs and Lords move out for six years, what an ideal opportunity to move Parliament north (“£4bn race to save crumbling Parliament”, September 9).
A Parliament sitting in Leeds or Manchester would perhaps bring a much needed impetus to this “Northern powerhouse”.
Maybe then MPs from southern constituencies might at last realise the problems in the north for business, health care, transport and education that large areas of the north have to contend with.
Alas the cynic in me can see it won’t happen, too grim up north for the metropolitan elite, perhaps. Alistair Watson,
