- PETE OLIVER

MIKE PHELAN has enhanced his CV and boasts one of the most influential referees in the business, but still has to wait to see if he will get the Hull job.

Sir Alex Ferguson, formerly his boss at Manchester United, has endorsed Phelan’s claims for the job, while Robert Snodgrass spoke for the dressing room after his injury-time equaliser at Burnley extended Hull’s feel-good factor.

“The players are sick of saying it,” said Snodgrass, whose perfectly placed free-kick means Hull have lost just one of their four league games

BURNLEY HULL

since Phelan, below, took over from Steve Bruce as caretakermanager. “He has got the lads playing a level of football that is great to be a part of. He has just won manager of the month as well. I don’t know what else he can do.” Burnley had gone ahead when Steven Defour scored a fine 72nd-minute strike, his first for the club, leaving new signing Jeff Hendrick, who came off the bench for his debut, saying: “It’s a kick in the teeth.”
