Full steam ahead for a glorious autumn

- By Nathan Rao

AUTUMN in all its glory has lit up the slopes of the Highlands where the Glenfinnan rail viaduct arcs across the head of Loch Shiel.

The glorious conditions heralded a period of calm and chilly weather that followed a wet and blustery weekend.

Up to an inch of rain pounded parts of the UK on Saturday night.

Temperatures are expected to stay around the 63F (17C) mark in the South over the next few days with highs of between 50F and 55F further north.

However, this week could bring the first harsh frost of the season as temperatures drop due to clear overnight skies.

By the end of the week daytime highs in the South will have dipped to around 55F and fallen towards 40F overnight.

Scotland and the North could even see the mercury touch freezing with frost expected in some rural spots.
