Lily migrant’s father was army commander
AN AFGHAN refugee whose son was championed by Lily Allen made trips to his homeland even though he successfully claimed asylum in Britain.
Former soldier Hazrat Gul Sherin, 49, who fought in the army of a warlord known as the Butcher of Kabul, returned twice to see the wife and four children he left behind.
His 13-year-old son Shamsher moved the singer to tears when she met him in the Calais Jungle camp. She sparked fury by apologising “on behalf of my country” for Britain’s part in offensives that toppled the Taliban.
But Hazrat, who claimed asylum after sneaking into Britain, was not fleeing extremists. He was a commander in the army of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and was terrified of the US and UK-backed Northern Alliance. “I was not escaping the Taliban,” he said, adding he returned because he was desperate to see his family.
