Let’s go back in time with Doctor Who

-

PLAYING outside until dark, sweets for a penny and watching Doctor Who on TV are the top childhood memories for the over-60s.

Hopscotch and tree climbing also made the list of simple pleasures which older people recall fondly about growing up.

According to a poll, 82 per cent of older people believe it was better being a child in 1967.

Eighty-six per cent feel children today miss out on the fun they enjoyed.

Three-quarters said childhood was the best time of their life.

Three-quarters also said they learned far more skills “in their day” and were able to make their own fun, something which 79 per cent of those questioned said they want to pass on to their grandchildren.

Clive Fenton, of retirement developers McCarthy & Stone, which conducted the survey of 2,000 people, told Radio Times: “By passing on these talents, older people are ensuring skills won’t die.”
