Theresa May has no case to answer over Trident test
TESTS are held to see if things work and Trident is no exception (“May is told to reveal all to Commons about Trident missile test ‘cover-up’”, January 23).
People such as Nicola Sturgeon, Jeremy Corbyn and elements of the media are showing their ignorance as they fail to understand the word “trials”.
I served on HMS Girdle Ness in the 1950s and worked on the Seaslug anti-aircraft missile trials. On one launch a booster rocket failed. The result was to send it back towards the ship. It was blown up. Any missile with a fault can be destroyed if the officer in command orders it.
Nobody outside the Royal Navy, the missile experts, the manufacturer, the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Secretary and the Prime Minister has any right to be informed of any missile test malfunction.
Instead of these politically biased complaints Sturgeon, Corbyn and the rest should consider trials are necessary to fix any problems with our nuclear missile defence.
