I can top time with Bayern

- Jake Bacon

PAUL CLEMENT says saving Swansea from the drop this season would be a bigger achievement than if he had stayed at Bayern Munich and won the Champions League.

The Swans’ shock 3-2 win over Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday moved them two points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.

It was Clement’s first victory as head coach after swapping his assistant manager’s role at Bayern to join Swansea.

“Keeping Swansea up would be the bigger achievement,” said Clement, above, who was a Champions League winner with Real Madrid in 2014. “If I had not won the Champions League before, maybe I would think differently. My focus is only on Swansea.”

Victory over Liverpool was a huge boost to Clement, who remains keen to add to his squad this month. Luciano Narsingh, Tom Carroll and Martin Olsson have already arrived at the Liberty Stadium, but a new centre-half remains a priority.

Clement’s side host Southampton a week today before daunting trips to Manchester City and Premier League leaders Chelsea next month. SUNDERLAND are ready to push through a deal for Joleon Lescott, right, with defender Papy Djilobodji facing a four-match ban.

Senegalese Djilobodji has been charged with violent conduct after appearing to lash out at West Brom’s Darren Fletcher during the 2-0 defeat at the Hawthorns.

Former Aston Villa defender Lescott has been training with Sunderland after leaving AEK Athens in November.
