RECORD-BREAKER Wayne Rooney says he is not interested in leaving Manchester United – for the moment.

The United captain, below, has been linked with a lucrative move to China and boss Jose Mourinho says he will not stand in his way.

But, despite admitting he is frustrated by losing his regular place, Rooney is planning to see out the remaining 18 months on his contract, and has not ruled out triggering an extra year’s option that would keep him at Old Trafford until 2019.

“I’m committed to the club,” said Rooney, above. “I’ve still got two years – a year with an option year – to go.

“I’m happy at Manchester United. I’ve been at the club a long time. Of course I want to play more games but I’m in a happy place at the moment.” SOUTHEND have sacked their head groundsman after their home game on Saturday was called off because of a frozen pitch.

The League One club launched an investigation into the postponement of the fixture against Bolton and pointed the finger at Ken Hare, who had been at Roots Hall since 1990. A club statement read: “People generally lose their position as a result of not doing their job.

“The necessary decision surrounding Mr Hare was a disappointment and of course not taken lightly. Very few people have been dismissed at this club over the past 20 years and that extends to managers.” After four nights of temperatures between -4 and -5C, which also led to the cancellation of Charlton’s match at the Valley, covers and heaters were used to thaw the penalty area in front of the South Stand, left, which gets no sunlight in the morning.

But the referee still deemed it unsafe four hours before kick-off.
