Stars dancing on air as 14 Oscar nomination­s

Ms Harris, 40, has landed her first Oscar nomination for her role as a drug addict.

She is nominated alongside Viola Davis (Fences), Michelle Williams (Manchester By The Sea), Nicole Kidman (Lion) and Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures). But there was no recognitio­n for Ken Loach’s benefits drama I, Daniel Blake, while British stars including Hugh Grant and Aaron Taylor-Johnson were also left disappoint­ed.

The announceme­nts also saw Meryl Streep becoming the first star to be nominated for 20 Oscars as she received a best actress nod for her role in Florence Foster Jenkins. Veteran star Ms Streep, 67, described as “overrated” by Donald Trump after she criticised him at the Golden Globes earlier this month, was nominated in the best actress category for her role as a tonedeaf opera singer . Also nominated were Irish-Ethiopian star Ruth Negga for Loving, French star Isabelle Huppert for Elle, Natalie Portman for Jackie and Emma Stone.

The Academy Awards, hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel, will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on February 26.
