Mum marched off holiday flight after taking secret nip of vodka
A HOLIDAYMAKER who tried to secretly slip her own nip of vodka into a drink during a budget flight says cabin crew tried to get her arrested when they landed.
Lucy Yallop, 32, admitted she had tried to sneak the tipple into a glass of juice on an easyJet flight to Alicante, despite knowing it was not allowed.
But the mother of three said a steward pounced on her “out of nowhere” and warned her: “The captain is telling Spanish police.”
Ms Yallop bought the miniature bottle at Newcastle airport and drank half before boarding. She then bought the orange juice.
She said: “It schoolgirl thing.”
The airline said Ms Yallop was warned four times that personal alcohol was not permitted on board.
Ms Yallop added: “I knew I shouldn’t but I knew I had the single measure in my bag and tried to put it in my orange. The steward came from was a naughty nowhere and said, ‘What have you got in your hand?’ It was embarrassing.
“The steward said he had told the captain who had radioed through so I would be arrested when we landed.”
The hair salon owner was escorted off the plane and met by two Spanish police officers.
She said: “I never thought a miniature would cause so much trouble. I was crying and shaking, I was so humiliated. I was terrified.”
Ms Yallop, of Durham, said when officers realised she was not drunk they “shrugged” and she continued with her mini-break in Benidorm.
But two days later she was not allowed to board her return flight with easyJet and had to buy a flight with another airline to Manchester.
A spokesman for easyJet said: “Crew need to be able to monitor alcohol consumption on board for the safety of all passengers.”
