Rupert Webb in the hit film Four Weddings And A Funeral and below, at home after fall A RETIRED actor who appeared in the film Four Weddings And A Funeral waited nearly four hours for an ambulance after slipping on his bathroom floor.

Rupert Webb, 94, was assessed as “low priority” despite suffering pain and distress while stuck between the bath and toilet. Mr Webb had to be nursed through his agony by his 78-year-old wife Barbara.

Mr Webb – who played the father of Hugh Grant’s jilted bride in the hit 1994 movie – said: “I just couldn’t move. There was nothing I could do except wait.”

Mrs Webb added: “I was so worried about him. I was amazed it was not being treated as a priority.” Mrs Webb called the Carelink helpline at 4.15pm on Wednesday, following her husband’s accident at their home in Rottingdean, East Sussex.

After waiting three and a half hours for an ambulance Mrs Webb called their neighbours for help. When the ambulance finally arrived at 8.10pm, paramedics checked him over and decided he did not need hospital treatment.

“They were very apologetic but I was still absolutely appalled. It should never have taken so long,” said Mr Webb

South East Coast Ambulance Service have promised to investigate the delay and apologised to the couple for their ordeal.
