COACHES PICK THEIR MAGIC MOMENTS FROM PAST CHAMPIONSHIP BATTLES
watching most were England versus France because you always had that contrast in style.
The English were more attritional and France, particularly in those days, used to play deep and wide.
Their outside backs would run the most beautiful lines. I remember our teacher at school, a great rugby coach, used to come in and rave about the French outside backs’ running lines. They were very good at changing their alignments.
The contrast in styles intrigued me. It was always fascinating to watch when you’re learning about rugby, so they were the games that always used to
excite me the most. JOE SCHMIDT (Ireland, left) I’d say full-time in France in 2014 when we won the championship. It was a bit special just because we were under the pump and we hadn’t done it away in Paris and Twickenham as far as I knew at that stage. And it was my first involvement in a Six Nations, so that made it special. GUY NOVES (France) Last year’s victory for France over Ireland in Paris. What I particularly like is to see happy players, especially after a victory, and that was a very tough match. Ireland deserved to win just as much as we did, but to see the French team so close together and the supporters backing them the way they did really motivated me. VERN COTTER (Scotland) Beating France last year at Murrayfield was a good feeling.
