Shelvey chant ‘over the top’
NEWCASTLE boss Rafa Benitez has called for action against Wolves fans who taunted Jonjo Shelvey.
They chanted ‘You dirty racist b ****** ’ and ‘you w ***** ’ during Newcastle’s 1-0 win at Molineux.
Shelvey was banned for five games and fined £100,000 for racially abusing Wolves midfielder Romain Saiss in September.
Shelvey was booed every time he touched the ball but set up the winner for Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Benitez said: “We knew it was coming but maybe the FA should look at this to control what fans say.”
Brighton striker Sam Baldock is tipping winger Solly March to become the next Andros Townsend after he helped demolish Burton 4-1.
Baldock played alongside England star Townsend at MK Dons and sees comparisons.
March, 22, is finally fit after a year out with a knee injury and was back to his best as Baldock, Tomer Hemed (two) and Glenn Murray scored.
Aiden McGeady, Preston’s on-loan midfielder, scored twice in the 4-2 win over Brentford but his future will come down to hard cash. Boss Simon Grayson accepts the £10,000 Preston contribute to McGeady’s weekly wages is no mean commitment.
McGeady, 30, said: “Everton made it clear I’m not in their plans. If Preston want to offer me something, I like it here, I’m happy.”
Alex Pritchard scored twice for Norwich in their 5-1 win over Nottingham Forest but could not match three terrific finishes earlier from Jonny Howson, Josh Murphy and Wes Hoolahan. “I’ve never played in a game where there have been so many quality goals,” said Pritchard.
