Yob strolls out of court as the judge jails him

- By Paul Jeeves

A CONVICTED thug strolled unchallenged from a court while he was being sent to prison by the judge.

Deputy District Judge Nick Hayles continued reading out his sentencing remarks – oblivious to the fact that Scott Brierley had walked out.

As he announced he was jailing Brierley for six weeks, Judge Hayles looked up and saw the 29-year-old had gone.

He simply turned on his heel, left the courtroom, descended a flight of steps and walked past security staff at the front entrance and on to the street.

To complete the farce, two jailers then appeared with handcuffs to take away Brierley, who had smashed up a complete stranger’s home in a terrifying late night attack.

Police are now hunting Brierley, who has 46 previous convictions. Hunted...Brierley An investigation has been launched into how he fled Teesside Magistrates’ Court in Middlesbrough on Monday. He had admitted criminal damage after breaking six windows at the home of young mum Katie Temke with a piece of wood. The yob had been released on licence from a jail term for carrying a knife two days earlier. Unknown to him, police were watching as he trashed Katie’s Middlesbrough home for no reason. She said of his escape: “How has this been allowed to happen? It was a horrible incident. Whenever my children hear a bang now, they think something bad is about to happen.” Brierley was also ordered to pay £250 compensation. He already owes £1,900 from previous convictions. Security at the court building is handled by G4S but they said the courts service has responsibility for escorting prisoners.
