Late show sees Tommy rock on

-

HUDDERSFIELD scored a late winner in their derby with bottom side Rotherham to maintain third place in the Championship.

Rotherham led twice via Semi Ajayi and Tom Adeyemi but were pegged back on both occasions by Joe Lolley and Elias Kachunga.

The visitors were left to rue several missed opportunities and also found Rotherham goalkeeper Richard O’Donnell in good form – but that was until Tommy Smith got an injury-time strike for a 3-2 win to keep Huddersfield well in the hunt. It was a late show all round last night. Joe Ralls scored a last-minute penalty to seal Cardiff’s dramatic 4-3 victory at Derby.

Darren Bent’s hot streak continued and he seemed to have rescued a point for the Rams when they were 3-2 down.

Dan Bentley’s late error gifted Reading all three points with sub Roy Beerens taking advantage.

The Brentford goalkeeper kicked the ball straight to Yann Kermorgant who set up an open goal for Beerens as the Royals came from 2-1 down to win 3-2.

Leeds claimed their first win in three games with a 2-1 home win over Bristol City.

Leeds had experienced a wobble but goals by Chris Wood, his 19th in the league, and Pablo Hernandez put their promotion charge back on track. City scored a consolation with the last act through Milan Djuric.

Sheffield Wednesday central defender Vincent Sasso struck twice in the first half with his first goals for the club as they maintained their push 2-1. The Frenchman saw teammate Sam Hutchinson put through his own net within 60 seconds of his goal but headed in another powerfully.

Tom Bradshaw’s brace put Barnsley on the way to a 3-1 away win over Aston Villa, who were wayward in front of goal. Adam Armstrong got Barnsley’s other goal.

Jake Buxton’s late header gave lowly Wigan a 1-0 win over lacklustre Wolves, who were booed at Molineux, while Jordan Hugill’s killer finish helped Preston beat 10-man Birmingham 2-1 at Deepdale to pile on the misery for Blues boss Gianfranco Zola.
