Zaha’s still on Spurs hitlist

- Tony Banks

TOTTENHAM will make another move to lure Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha to White Hart Lane in the summer.

Palace chairman Steve Parish described Spurs’ £12million bid for Zaha last August as “ridiculous” and they made further unsuccessful enquiries in January.

But manager Mauricio Pochettino is a fan of the 24-year-old and he is determined to land his man.

Pochettino will move for Zaha, one of Palace’s few bright sparks this season, whether or not his club are relegated.

He signed a five-and-ahalf-year deal at Palace in 2015 but sources close to the player, who had a disappointing stint at Manchester United between 2013 and 2015, indicate he might be ready to move on.

I would not discredit the players, but he has too many that he has persisted with for years and years.

I was a big fan of Theo Walcott and Alex OxladeChamberlain when they came to Arsenal, but they have too many players who have gone there and not improved.

I do not think Walcott turned out to be the player we thought he would be. Some of these players have not done it in the big games but, rightly or wrongly, Wenger has stuck with them.

Loyalty is a big thing in football and too often there is not enough of it. But sometimes there can be too much.

It is very hard to knock the man. But there might be a reason why players do not improve as they should do under Arsenal. They do not work enough.

And maybe he with them too long.

You always need a competitive edge in the dressing room – in our dressing room at Liverpool we were not the most talented but we would not go down without a fight.

Players at Arsenal are very happy with the manager. Mesut Ozil is the prime example. He even sticks
