Shining future for Gary’s crew

-

BOY BAND Five To Five have won BBC’s talent contest Let It Shine, bagging themselves a year’s contract as stars of a new touring musical inspired by Take That’s songs.

Speaking to Day & Night, head judge Gary Barlow said he was confident the show wouldn’t be doomed like the Spice Girl’s production Viva Forever! – which closed after seven months.

“Theatre is back. Theatre is cool again and these guys are going to make a brand new modern musical and make it mean something to people,” he told us after Saturday night’s final. “I know the team that’s going to be working with them. They are going to have skills and careers that are hopefully going to last them for the rest of their lives.”

AJ Bentley, 21, Curtis T Johns, 23, Nick Carsberg, 17, Sario Solomon, 19, and Yazdan Qafouri, 18, fought off competition from the two other finalists to be chosen by a public vote.

The new boy band will start intense rehearsals for the show before it opens in Manchester in late summer. It will feature the boys singing 14 Take That songs as they tell the story of five female super-fans.

However when pressed on any further plot details Gary kept quiet. “No, I can’t give you any more! We start next week. We are going straight into rehearsal for a musical to be on stage by the end of August. It is a very short time period.”
