Lamborghini driver in war over mayor’s parking spot

- By Nathan Sandhu

A FASHION company boss has refused to stop parking his £250,000 Lamborghini in a space reserved for the mayor – despite already having six tickets overturned using a legal technicality.

Ash White, 22, was slapped with six tickets after leaving his bright orange sports car outside the town hall.

He enlisted the help of a parking law expert who forced council officials to cancel the fines.

They admitted that at least two of the tickets were invalid because the words “Mayor’s Car” were painted inside the marked bay at Cheltenham Town Hall in Gloucestershire.

The council re-painted the words outside the bay – but Mr White has now also parked his black Lamborghini in the same spot.

Parking law expert Nigel Wise, who helped Mr White win the ticket appeals, said: “There is no such thing as a priority space for the mayor.

“They are just putting up restrictions willy nilly.”

But Gloucestershire County Council’s parking bosses said Mr Wise was behind the times and that parking legislation had been updated.

Appeal

Nigel Riglar, director of communities and infrastructure for the local authority, said: “The council is continuing to enforce on-street parking in Cheltenham and across the county.

“The restrictions are intended to make parking easier for residents and visitors alike.

“Residents have the option to lodge an appeal on any ticket issued and, if they are still unhappy, can pursue the matter with the Traffic Penalty Tribunal.”

After his last set of tickets, Mr White said: “I don’t mind paying up, the tickets don’t bother me.”

The entrepreneur also said he was considering buying an office in the town just so he would be able to get his hands on a parking permit.
