RT Roy: Playing IPL will boost us all

- Chris Stocks

AMIR KHAN says he has agreed terms with Manny Pacquiao for a clash between the pair on April 23.

Contracts have yet to be signed and it will not be for Pacquiao’s WBO welterweight belt.

But Pacquiao said it was definitely on because “this is what the fans wanted”.

And Khan followed that by posting on Twitter that the “superfight” had been agreed and he was ready to put pen to paper. JASON ROY believes the experience gained by England’s Indian Premier League contingent will be invaluable during this summer’s Champions Trophy.

Roy, who landed a £120,000 deal with Gujarat Lions, is one of six players on England’s Caribbean tour who will take part in this year’s IPL.

The Surrey opener, speaking ahead of the three-match one-day series against West Indies that starts in Antigua on Friday, said: “It’ll be my first time going to the IPL. It’s not just about the money. You get used to playing in front of massive crowds and, being an overseas player, the pressure is on to do well. It’s all foundation blocks to a big tournament.”

Roy, who struck 79 during England’s opening warm-up win against a Vice-Chancellor’s XI on Saturday, expects to resume his opening partnership with Alex Hales, who will join up with England after undergoing a scan on his injured hand today.
