Harry’s pain is a gain in our fight says Silva

- James McMath

HULL boss Marco Silva says the determination shown by Harry Maguire can be an example to the rest of his players in their relegation battle.

Defender Maguire seemed to jar his left knee in an awkward first-half fall but played through the pain after lengthy treatment and went on to be man of the match.

With key centre-backs Michael Dawson and Curtis Davies out injured, Hull have no natural replacements in Maguire’s spot alongside Andrea Ranocchia.

Silva said: “What he showed was fantastic. He played maybe the second half 50 per cent of his capacity because of his

injury in the knee. I hope it is nothing serious, he just needs to rest a little bit.

“He is a fantastic boy, has fantastic behaviour and it’s a good example for all. We need players like him. I never want to put my players at risk but this is the character we need to get out of the relegation zone.”

Tom Huddlestone’s penalty after Kamil Grosicki’s corner hit Michael Keane’s hand put Hull ahead, but Keane atoned soon after, levelling for Burnley, who had Ashley Barnes sent off in stoppage time for a second yellow card.

Hull have picked up eight points since Silva came in and are only five points behind 14thplaced Bournemouth.

Huddlestone said: “We’re still in touch with Bournemouth and they won’t feel as comfy as they did a few weeks ago.” The draw gave Burnley only their second away point this term.

The Clarets have three successive away matches before they return to their Turf Moor fortress and winger George Boyd said: “It’s a good point for us.

“It keeps the gap there for us. I think we were solid.”
