Pill could save lives
Why acting quickly and taking aspirin slashes the threat of a fatal stroke
numbness in his hands and left arm, a tingling sensation to the left side of his face, slurred speech and feeling as though his throat was closing up. These episodes lasted 20-30 seconds and occurred frequently, yet his GP said there was nothing to worry about.
That patient’s subsequent stroke has left him unable to work and has had an immeasurable impact on his life and independence. He now suffers from weakness on his left side, difficulty co-ordinating the use of his left hand, extreme tiredness, poor memory and confusion.
The victim was awarded £470,000 in compensation, and although it in no way makes up for the illness and pain that he suffered, financial remuneration ensures he can receive the right level of treatment and long-term care. Hugh James is supporting the call for more awareness of the power of aspirin and the need for it to be administered immediately, possibly helping to save other patients from having to go through a similar ordeal.
Although it doesn’t compensate for the illness and pain suffered, financial remuneration is available to ensure people can receive the right level of treatment and care to live with the aftermath of a stroke.
