Orient limbo hell for fans

-

LEYTON ORIENT Fans Trust (LOFT) say the adjournment of a winding-up order has left the club and supporters in a “state of limbo”.

A High Court judge yesterday said he would consider the winding-up application of the League Two club – owned by Francesco Becchetti, right – on June 12.

HMRC officials said a debt owed had been paid but the case has been adjourned to allow Orient to pay other debts – including more than £35,000 to Waltham Forest Council and £6,000 to the club photographer.

Orient will not go into administration for the time being and will also avoid a 12-point EFL penalty. Although a lawyer told the court that £1million was due to be injected into the club soon, LOFT said: “Today’s events leave the club in a state of limbo. It is clear that the only way Leyton Orient can hope to recover as a club, both on and off the field, is for Becchetti to sell – and as soon as possible.” WEST HAM midfielder Pedro Obiang, right, looks set to miss the rest of the season. The Spaniard, 24, appeared to roll his ankle during Saturday’s defeat by Leicester and was carried off.

West Ham had already lost Winston Reid to an adductor injury and winger Michail Antonio suffered a hamstring problem which has forced him out of the England squad. ●GHANAIAN referee Joseph Odartei Lamptey has been banned for life by FIFA for unlawfully influencing a match result. He incorrectly awarded a penalty for a non-existent handball during a World Cup qualifier, which meant South Africa beat Senegal 2-1.
