Son rises late to save Spurs bid

LATE goals from Dele Alli, Son Heung-Min and Christian Eriksen proved that Tottenham can seriously challenge Chelsea for the title.

Alli’s 88th-minute equaliser was followed up by Son and Eriksen’s injury-time goals to keep up their relentless pursuit of Antonio Conte’s men.

The goals, scored within six minutes of each other, moved Swansea back into the relegation zone with Hull’s win over Middlesbro­ugh.

Wayne Routledge’s first-half goal against his old club looked to be enough to earn Swansea a first Premier League win over Spurs, but the three late goals leaves the Welsh club without a victory in four games.

Tottenham were dealt an early blow when illness ruled captain Hugo Lloris out of the this clash at the Liberty Stadium. And former Swans goalkeeper Michel Vorm was drafted in for just his fourth league start of the season.

Meanwhile, Swansea were arguably hit with a bigger injury blow as top scorer Fernando Llorente missed a second successive game with an ankle problem. But after just four minutes, Alfie Mawson made sure Swansea head coach Paul Clement was not just worrying about the absence of his Spanish talisman. The young defender gifted the ball to Son who released Moussa Sissoko in on goal.

But the France midfielder opted to pass, rather than shoot, which allowed Federico Fernandez to clear.

It signalled a nervous start from the home side, who were just a point above safety going into the game, as Leroy Fer, Jack Cork and Tom Carroll were guilty of giving up possession in the early stages.

Despite Tottenham’s pressure, it was Swansea who took an 11thminute lead against the run of play.

A Swans corner was worked all the way back to Lukasz Fabianski, much to the disappoint­ment of the home crowd, and his long punt upfield found Jordan Ayew who picked out Routledge, and the former Tottenham winger tapped home with ease.
