Dance floored! Punch-up at Flatley show

- By Tony Brooks

A WOMAN has been charged with assaulting a police officer after a brawl during a performance of Michael Flatley’s latest hit stage show.

Georgina Lynn Sixsmith, 48, was also charged with being drunk and disorderly after fighting broke out in the orchestra stalls towards the end of the opening night of Lord Of The Dance: Dangerous Games, in Manchester.

Police were called to the city’s Palace Theatre shortly after 9pm on Tuesday when up to eight people were involved in a disturbance. No one needed medical treatment.

The show, which is on tour, is advertised as “a high energy, two-hour fusion of dance styles from traditional Irish tap, modern and Broadway, involving a story of good and evil with a Hunger Games flavour”. One witness said: “It would seem a few people got carried away with the excitement of it all.

“It’s supposed to be an intoxicating mix of dance and music and clearly a handful in the audience were intoxicated.”

Sixsmith, from Middleton, Greater Manchester, was released on bail to appear before Manchester and Salford magistrates on May 10.

No one from the theatre was available to comment. Dance sensation Michael, 58, first found fame starring in the stage show Riverdance but left in late 1995 because of conflicts over “creative control”.

He planned a dance show for arenas and stadiums and Lord of The Dance took six months to reach the stage.

The show’s premiere was in 1996 and follows the Lord Of The Dance in his fight against evil dark lord Don Dorcha, trying to take over Planet Ireland.
