Danny still cares

- ADAM HATHAWAY

DANNY CARE is eyeing a return to Europe’s top table as Harlequins continue their push for a top-six finish against Exeter tonight.

Quins have been hit by both a huge injury list and international call-ups this season and are sixth.

The club have spent the last two years in the Challenge Cup – losing to Montpellier in last year’s final.

England cap Care wants to mix it with the big boys again. He said: “We haven’t qualified for the Champions Cup for three years so that’s a big focus for us – of course we do have a slight chance to get into the top four. If we fall short, we’ll work hard in pre-season to get it right. There’s been some disruption with international players going away and some long-term injuries in key positions during those periods. Those that played stepped up well and did themselves very proud”. Exeter, who are second, have already booked a play-off spot and CARE Champions Cup rugby next year but will miss their try-machine, No8 Thomas Waldrom (hand injury). Only Don Armand remains from the pack that beat Bristol, but Dave Ewers is back on the blindside flank. ENGLAND limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan and opener Jason Roy are set to take part in Cricket South Africa’s new domestic Twenty20 competition over the next two years.

Morgan, Roy and Kevin Pietersen were the three England-qualified players named among eight ‘marquee’ stars signed up to enter the draft for November’s tournament. They will be joined by West Indies’ Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Chris Gayle, Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga and former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum.
