Carr in the fast lane
YORKSHIRE trainer Ruth Carr celebrated her most notable success after Sovereign Debt snatched victory in the Sunbets Mile Championship at Lingfield yesterday.
“It’s not very often I’m lost for words, but I kind of am at the moment,” said the clearly delighted Carr who was also successful with Art Collection and Chaplin Bay at Newcastle.
“It’s fantastic for the owners and for the horse itself, he’s been the bridesmaid so many times, he’s really deserved it.
“It’s a fantastic day for the yard. Jimmy (Sullivan) had him in a really good position and he’s always stuck his neck out and tried.”
Carr has developed a reputation, like her late grandfather David Chapman, for improving horses when they join her Stillington stables. Sovereign Debt, who was also landing the biggest prize of his career in yesterday’s £150,000 contest, joined Carr this season from the Dandy Nicholls yard.
Kimberella, who was also under the care of the now retired Nicholls, landed his second race since joining Richard Fahey. The Paul Hanaganridden Kimberella gave Fahey a third victory in four years in the AllWeather Sprint Championships Conditions Stakes.
“He’s an absolute dream to ride,” said Hanagan. “You just point and push a little bit at the end.
“He’s such a genuine horse. We’ve had a lot of luck here before with Alben Star (winner in 2016 and 2014) and Kimberella is going to be another legend in the yard just like he was.”
The record crowd of 10,817 went home happy from the Surrey track after the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Convey, (the 11-10 favourite) came home the comfortable winner of the Betway Easter Classic in the hands of Ryan Moore.
